Oversees execution of vision and mission of FiveStone Churches

Gordon Zwirkoski

Gordon Zwirkoski, founder and director of FiveStone Churches, focuses on planting and growing life-giving local churches that make disciples of Jesus Christ. He is devoted to helping pastors and elders and other leaders in their work. Before founding FiveStone Churches in 2010, he invested 20 years as a teacher and elder for dozens of churches in the U.S. and in Canada.

Gordon created a spiritually focused and pragmatically sound church plant manual that serves as a template for church planting at FiveStone Churches. He serves as an elder and teacher-coach to FiveStone church plants and works with FiveStone partner churches.

Gordon left a corporate career in 2001 to co-found Harvest Bible Fellowship. He created and organized residency programs for new senior pastors. He initiated and developed Harvest University, an annual church leadership conference. Each year at that conference, he led the Elder Topics track, focusing on building practical shepherding skills through role plays and case studies to challenge elders to see their work through the grid of the Scriptures.

In addition to church planting and strengthening, Gordon's ongoing ministry includes elder strengthening and planning retreats focused on biblical, practical understanding of shepherding the local church. Gordon's wife, Joyce, joins in many of these retreats to shepherd and teach the wives of elders. Gordon has created systems for church planter assessment and ministry leaders assessment, as well as systems for assessing and building church health.

He and Joyce have four grown children—Jason, Matthew, Rachel and Sarah—and Gordon loves his family. He enjoys motorcycling, camping, landscaping, reading and spending time with family and friends. He has masters degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill., and from the University of Illinois at Springfield. He has a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University.
